Alex Gilbert - 2007
After graduating from Mizzou in December 2007 with a BA in Economics and a minor in Biological Sciences I moved to Chicago, IL. I am currently completing my MBA at Loyola University Chicago, and I work in downtown Chicago at a consulting group. I can say with total confidence that the experience that I had at the University of Missouri contributed greatly to my success. The background in economics that I developed as an economics major now provides me with numerous career opportunities and advantages. You often find yourself dealing with large sets of data in the consulting profession, and my experience in economic and quantitative coursework gave me the background to handle such challenges. When I'm not working or in school I'm usually exploring Chicago, hanging around with friends, or cheering on my Mizzou Tigers in football and basketball.

Sara Marie Holzschuh - 2007
I graduated from MU with my bachelor’s degree in economics in the spring of 2007 with honors. Since then, I have been attending Law School at the University of Missouri and am currently in my second year. Last summer I was a research assistant for my former contracts professor, where I studied postal services in a multitude of countries throughout the world and determined the effects of government operated postal monopolies and deregulation on the private shipping sector. I also spent my summer doing work with Hallmark Cards Inc. in downtown Kansas City with the implementation of a new, electronic based, customizable card line.
Currently, I am attending classes in hopes of someday (in the not too distant future) becoming a corporate / commercial lawyer and am trying to obtain a summer internship that will utilize both my economics and legal training. In my free time I am a member of my sorority’s house corporation board and an alumni advisor for my collegiate chapter as well as a member of the Women and Law Association, Phi Alpha Delta, and an Intellectual Property club. I will be taking the bar next May and at that point will hopefully be able to utilize both of my degrees in my future career path.

Kathleen Navin - 2007
After graduating with a BS in economics in May 2007, I chose to stay an additional year to complete an MA in economics as part of the department's fifth-year masters program. As a teaching assistant for Dr. Ronald Ratti's Money, Banking, and Financial Markets course, I became incredibly interested in monetary policy and decided to apply for a position at the Federal Reserve upon completing my graduate coursework. In June 2008, I began working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City as a research associate in the economic research department's macroeconomics and monetary policy division. In addition to performing the typical research associate tasks (i.e. supporting my economist's research), I have had the incredible opportunity to assist with the research department's policy advising role. Prior to each Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting in Washington, D.C., the economic research staff prepares its own economic outlook. By supporting this process, I have learned an exceptional amount about monetary policy, forecasting, and data analysis. Because I would like to continue my education in economics, I will be applying to PhD programs this fall.

Katherine Utz - 2006
I graduated in May 2006 and am currently in my last year of law school in Chicago at Chicago-Kent College of Law. After taking the Illinois Bar in July 2009 I will be practicing in the Chicago office of Seyfarth Shaw. I have been assigned to the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group and could not be more excited.
Although I envisioned myself being an attorney for quite sometime, both the rigor and competitive nature of law school proved to be rather challenging. My economics background has proven to be helpful, though, in my legal studies by providing me a strong analytical foundation and allowing me to be a more critical reader. I can also definitely say that having an economics background helped me to develop a unique perspective in my law school courses, that is to argue for more efficiency-based decisions.

Kevin Vasel – 2006
After graduating from the University of Missouri in 2006, I moved to New York City and matriculated at Fordham University School of Law. During law school, I did market regulatory work at the New York Stock Exchange; antitrust work at the Federal Trade Commission; and corporate and litigation work at a law firm. In 2007, I married my college sweetheart in Washington, D.C., and we currently live in lower Manhattan. In 2009, I will graduate from law school and sit for the New York State bar examination. I have accepted a job offer from Ernst & Young LLP and will work in the Tax Technical Practice in the Times Square office. During the next few years, I will pursue a Master of Laws in Taxation at New York University School of Law.
