Application Procedures

Applicants are encouraged to complete the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission (Note: Applicants completing the on-line Graduate Application for Admission will be able to continually monitor the status of their application from the web-based system. The online application provides the most convenient and efficient way to apply for graduate study at MU and is the preferred method of applying.)

The non-refundable application-processing fee is $45.00 US for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents and $60.00 US for Non-Resident Aliens (Internationals).

The following items must be submitted directly to the Graduate Admission Office (210 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211):

Your official transcripts from every college or university you have attended (sent directly from the college or university)
Your official TOEFL or IELTS scores (sent directly from the Educational Testing Service) *International Applicants only

The following items must be forwarded directly to the Department of Economics:

Your resume (may be uploaded with your online application)
Your Personal Statement (may be uploaded with your online application)
Three Letters of Recommendation (may be submitted electronically, or sent directly by the individual) (form in pdf)
Your official GRE scores (sent directly from the Educational Testing Service)
A copy of your official TOEFL or IELTS score (International Applicants only)

GRE, TOEFL, IELTS Score Guidelines

Minimum levels normally expected:
GRE - Quantitative = 700 or above
Verbal + Quantitative = 1100 or above
TOEFL - 550/213/79 (Paper/Computer/Internet)
IELTS - 6.0

All graduate degree programs have instant access to review their submitted electronic Applications for Admissions; the submission of hard copy applications will slow the application review process.
