Application Procedures
Applicants are encouraged to complete the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission (Note: Applicants completing the on-line Graduate Application for Admission will be able to continually monitor the status of their application from the web-based system. The online application provides the most convenient and efficient way to apply for graduate study at MU and is the preferred method of applying.)
The non-refundable application-processing fee is $55.00 US for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents and $75.00 US for Non-Resident Aliens (Internationals).
The following items may be uploaded to the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission:
- Your resume
- Your Personal Statement
- Three Letters of Recommendation (form in pdf)
- A copy of your official TOEFL or IELTS score. Your official TOEFL or IELTS scores (sent directly from the Educational Testing Service) must be submitted directly to the Graduate Admission Office (210 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211)*International Applicants only
The following items must be forwarded directly to Ms. Lynne Riddell (see address below):
- Official transcripts from every college or university you have attended (they will be forwarded to the Graduate School)
- Your resume (if it is not uploaded to the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission)
- Your Personal Statement (if it is not uploaded to the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission)
- Three Letters of Recommendation in signed and sealed envelopes (if they are not uploaded to the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission) (form in pdf)
- Your official GRE scores (sent directly from the Educational Testing Service)
- A copy of your official TOEFL or IELTS score (if it is not uploaded to the MU Online Graduate Application for Admission). Your official TOEFL or IELTS scores (sent directly from the Educational Testing Service) must be submitted directly to the Graduate Admission Office (210 Jesse Hall, Columbia, MO 65211)*International Applicants only

GRE, TOEFL, IELTS Score Guidelines
Minimum levels normally expected:
Cumulative GPA = 3.0 or above
GRE - Quantitative = 700 or above (old score), 155 or above (new score)
GRE – Verbal = 400 or above (old score), 146 or above (new score)
TOEFL - 550/213/79 (Paper/Computer/Internet)

The Graduate School strongly encourages the online submission of the Graduate Application for Admission.
All graduate degree programs have instant access to review their submitted electronic Applications for Admissions; the submission of hard copy applications will slow the application review process.
