Associate professor edited, contributed to new retailing and distribution handbook

Associate professor Emek Basker edited a handbook on the economics of retailing and distribution that will be published in March.

The 512-page handbook contains sections about development, vertical organization, horizontal organization and competition, and sectors. Basker wrote the book’s introduction and its second chapter: The Evolution of Technology in the Retail Sector.

The book also explores topics such as public policy, the history of chains and international trade patterns.

Judith Chevalier of the Yale School of Management said in a review that the handbook “provides the definitive synopsis of economics and regulatory issues pertaining to the dynamic sector” and that “prior to this book there was no guide to economic research issues in retailing and distribution.”
