Professor Otrok shares President's Council of Economic Advisors experience with students

Chris Otrok

On Thursday, September 27, the Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) Economics Honor Society held “Pizza with Dr. Otrok”. Speaking from his experience on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, Professor Chris Otrok gave a fascinating and a very engaging talk about how economic data is processed and analyzed to become the elements of economic policy. He gave examples of the various statistical models and adjustments that government economists make, as well as examples of the workflow of how economic policy documents are produced going all the way from the technical desks to the President's briefings to the officially published forecasts. Dr. Otrok’s presentation highlighted the roles that economists play in the federal government and outlined the potential career steps.

ODE is a student society with membership by invitation only for students majoring in economics with GPA 3.0 and above, and at least 12 credits in economics. The current membership is about 10 students, with many more who are ODE alumni.
