Qian "Joe" Wu (PhD 2023) specialized in econometrics, advised by Dr. Kaplan.  As a student, he presented his research at five conferences including the Midwest Econometrics Group and the selective Wash U Economics Graduate Students Conference.  He also honed his teaching skills as Head TA of ECON 1015, Principles of Macroeconomics.

Upon graduation, Dr. Wu became a tenure-track assistant professor at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), one of the best universities for economics in China.  Since then, he continued working with Dr. Kaplan to turn one of his dissertation chapters into a research paper accepted for publication at the Journal of Health Economics, the top field journal for health economics.
