Dean Cooper Drury and his balloon-toting entourage surprised Dr. Alyssa Carlson in her Econ 4371/7371 Econometrics class to present her with the Arts & Science Assistant Professor of the Year Award. Professor Carlson was recognized for her outstanding record of research, service, and teaching over the past year.
On the research front, Dr. Carlson published five referred articles in leading journals since 2023, she won the highly prestigious multi-year National Science Foundation Grant, she also serves as the faculty advisor to multiple student groups and won the 2024 Alumnae Anniversary Award from the Women and Gender Studies Department for her dedication to mentoring students, as well as multiple departmental excellence awards.
In addition to consistently strong student evaluations of her teaching, Dr. Carlson’s nomination was supported by several letters from current and former students who praised her dedication, skill, and ability to inspire.
