CRES Graduate Fellowship Opportunity

MU Economics

For incoming PhD students interested in energy economics and energy policy, we have a new collaboration with Mizzou's Center for Rural Energy Security (CRES). This new, fully-funded position entails teaching assistant responsibilities during the first two years of the student's course of study followed by a research assistantship with CRES for the remainder of the student's program. The student will be invited to participate in CRES events throughout their time at the Mizzou, including opportunities to interact with senior scholars as well as policymakers, energy industry leaders, and rural stakeholder organizations.

Formed in 2025, CRES is the first and only university-based energy policy think tank with a missional focus on the implications of federal and state energy policies and of energy technology innovations for rural America, including agriculture and rural economic development. CRES's graduate fellows have a unique opportunity to inform and engage with policymakers and industry stakeholders while also building their own research agendas.

To express interest in this opportunity, applicants should mention this position and explain their interest in the Statement of Purpose portion of their application to our Economics PhD program. Assistantship appointments are for an average of 20 hours per week and include a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance. To learn more about admission requirements and to apply, please see our Economics PhD application info. For questions specifically about the CRES Graduate Fellowship opportunity, please email CRES Director Dr. Michael Sykuta.
