Mizzou Economics welcomed distinguished guest speaker Dr. Gary Hoover, Professor of Economics and Executive Director of the Murphy Institute at Tulane University, to talk to students and faculty about his forthcoming book, “Ladder of Lottery: The Economics of the Social Contract”. Professor Hoover discussed what the “social contract” requires of its citizens and what is promised in return. He then explored what happens when individuals who feel that they have done the required actions do not get their promised results; and explored recent protest movements, such as Occupy Wall Street, The Tea Party, and Student Debt Forgiveness as case studies. Undergraduate students from the UMES, UWE, and ODE were in attendance, as well students from Dr. T. Chikhladze’s Econ 1015H class.
