Dr. Podgursky Appointed to School Funding Taskforce

MU Economics

Chancellor’s Professor Michael Podgursky has been appointed to the State School Funding Modernization Task Force.  Dr. Podgursky is a nationally recognized expert in the economics of education, as well as a Mizzou alum (BA Economics 1974).  Governor Kehoe created the new Task Force to modernize the state funding model so that it “rewards outcomes, encourages innovation, and ensures fairness for all Missouri students.” The Task Force will deliver its recommendations next year.

Dr. Podgursky joined the faculty at Mizzou in 1995, serving as the Department Chairman for 10 years, retiring in 2018.  As a Chancellor’s Professor, Podgursky continues to publish research, teach occasional classes, and advises students.  During his tenure as a faculty member at Mizzou, Podgursky often taught introductory classes and encouraged many students to major in Economics.  Each year, the department recognizes about a dozen students who excel in introductory classes as “Podgursky Scholars” and awards these students with $500 scholarships. To support the Podgursky Scholars program, make an earmarked contribution to the Economics Development Gift Fund.
