Mizzou Economics is fortunate to employ several remote Online Teaching Specialists that offer high quality and convenient online courses. For example, Kelly Edmiston regularly teaches courses in State and Local Public Finance (Econ 4316/7316) in the spring semester and Health Economics (Econ 4357/7357) in the summer session.
Dr. Edmiston believes that good policy is evidence-based, and he enjoys teaching students how they can use the tools of applied economics to analyze questions in the policy arena and develop appropriate policies to address economic and social problems. While his current passion is health economics and health services research, Kelly has a long history of teaching and research in public finance. In addition to his duties at MU, Kelly is the Policy Research Manager in the Center for Insurance Policy & Research (CIPR) at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). There he analyzes critical and emerging issues in insurance or issues related to insurance, focusing largely on healthcare, health insurance, and investment finance. Previously, Kelly worked at Georgia State University, the Federal Reserve, and the KU School of Medicine. He has also worked extensively as a consultant for the World Bank and USAID. Kelly lives in Overland Park, KS with his wife, who is a veterinarian, and four children. He is an avid baseball card collector and enjoys shooting sports, reading, and spending time with his family.
