Report on returns to university and major by Peter Schaefer, an undergraduate student researcher
MU Economics
Peter Schaefer, a senior economics major, recently wrote a technical report analyzing the earnings return to college major and university under the advisement of Dr. Street. Specifically, he used a new dataset, the Post-Secondary Education Outcomes databank, produced by the U.S. Census Bureau to compare median earnings 1, 5, and 10 years after graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Peter compared wages for graduates from the University of Missouri to other institutions in Missouri and other R1-designated institutions nationwide for all majors and for economics majors separately. He also compared earnings for those with economics degrees to other majors at the University of Missouri. His comprehensive report can be found here. Peter graduates in May 2024 and will work as an analyst at Wells Fargo in their Wealth and Investment Management portfolio.
