Xin Liu (PhD 2021) specialized in econometrics, working with Professor Kaplan as her doctoral advisor. As a teaching assistant, Xin helped undergraduate and master's students learn econometrics, both in-person and online. As a PhD student, she also presented three different research papers at five conferences including the European Winter Meeting of the Econometric Society; Xin was awarded funding for conference travel by our department, MU, and one of the conferences. One of Xin's papers combined with others' work to produce a 2019 publication in the Journal of Econometrics, while the other two were submitted to journals as solo papers; she also completed a 4th paper together with Professor Kaplan. Due to her excellent research, Xin won our department's Harry Gunnison Brown Research Fellowship in 2019 and won a campus-wide Winemiller Excellence Award in 2020. Xin was also involved in our department's Graduate Women in Economics.
Upon graduation, Xin became a tenure-track assistant professor at Washington State University, one of the 131 top R1 research universities in the U.S. Since then, she has published her research in the Journal of Econometrics, Empirical Economics, Econometric Reviews, Econometrics and Statistics, and the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics.
